(CNA reporter Yu Hsiao-han, Taipei, June 17) According to statistics from the Tourism Administration, Japanese visitors to Taiwan in the past year recovered to nearly 70% of 2019 levels. To further attract tourists, the Tourism Administration is planning a repeat visitor incentive program, under which foreign travelers returning to Taiwan could receive up to NT$8,000 in travel discounts.
The Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Tourism Administration released a press statement today, announcing plans to launch an international repeat visitor incentive program. Eligible travelers could receive up to NT$8,000 in travel benefits, and the administration will continue promoting incentive measures for meetings and exhibitions tourism, encouraging international visitors to revisit Taiwan for deeper travel experiences and business activities.
The Tourism Administration stated that the NT$8,000 benefit is available to all foreign visitors, with returning visitors receiving NT$5,000 in travel discounts and accompanying travelers receiving NT$3,000.
According to Tourism Administration data, Japanese visitors to Taiwan reached 1.48 million in 2025 (Year 114), an increase of over 12% from the previous year, recovering to nearly 70% of pre-pandemic 2019 (Year 108) levels, indicating that Japan remains one of Taiwan's key source markets.
Tourism Administration Director-General Chen Yu-hsiu recently met with Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) President Kanae Kumana and Hankyu Travel President Jun Sakai to promote greater numbers of Japanese tourists visiting Taiwan.
The Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) announced on June 16 the launch of its 'Motto! Kaigai e' (Go Overseas More!) promotional campaign, aligning with Japan's passport fee reduction starting July 1, encouraging more Japanese citizens to travel abroad.
The Tourism Administration expressed hope that the combination of Japan's outbound travel incentives and Taiwan's promotional measures will further boost Japanese travelers' willingness to visit Taiwan. (Edited by Li Hsi-chang) 1150617
