Taoyuan International Airport forecasts a total of approximately 713,000 passengers during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday travel period, averaging 143,000 passengers per day—surpassing both last year’s figures and pre-pandemic levels, setting a new record for daily passenger volume during the holiday. The single-day peak on June 19 is projected to reach 149,000 passengers.

The airport authority released a press statement today indicating that cumulative passenger traffic has exceeded 20 million as of May 20, 2024—15 days earlier than last year’s June 4 milestone and 9 days ahead of the pre-pandemic May 29, 2019 benchmark—demonstrating a sustained rebound in international travel demand. In preparation for the holiday’s inbound and outbound passenger surge, the airport has coordinated with airlines, ground handlers, CIQS (Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security), and connecting transportation providers to enhance capacity at check-in counters, security checkpoints, passport control, and baggage handling systems.

The holiday travel period runs from June 18 to June 22, spanning five days, with an estimated total of 713,000 passengers and a daily average of 143,000. This exceeds last year’s 132,000 and surpasses the pre-pandemic peak of 138,000 in 2019. The busiest day is expected to be June 19, with 149,000 passengers.

To improve clearance efficiency, the airport continues to deploy an AI-powered image recognition crowd monitoring system that displays real-time security screening wait times. Travelers can check queue status via digital signage near departure gates or through the official Taoyuan Airport mobile app. The airport recommends arriving at least three hours before departure and utilizing mobile or online check-in, self-service baggage drop, and automated immigration gates (e-Gate) to minimize waiting times.

Passengers are reminded to verify passport validity and destination entry requirements before departure. Liquids and lithium batteries must comply with security regulations, and power banks must be carried in hand luggage and must not be used during flight. For checked baggage, travelers should avoid loose protective covers or films, dangling straps or tags, oversized or irregularly shaped items, and loosely packed luggage that could cause contents to spill—ensuring smooth baggage handling operations.
