According to a report by Central News Agency, Pingtung County Government has advanced its oral health policy through a denture subsidy program, enabling over 4,000 elderly individuals to regain their chewing ability. The program has achieved an overall satisfaction rate exceeding 98%, highlighting its success and high public approval.

For the 2026 fiscal year (115th year), the county allocated TWD 10.5 million for the 'Subsidy Program for Denture Installation for Low- and Middle-Income Elderly.' To date, 4,784 seniors have received assistance, successfully restoring their ability to eat normally and improving their quality of life.

The County Health Bureau emphasized efforts to reduce urban-rural healthcare disparities and improve access for elderly in remote areas. By collaborating with medical institutions and dental professional groups, a comprehensive oral care network has been established across the county, linking 59 contracted medical facilities and 7 mobile clinics. This enables seniors in mountainous, indigenous, and coastal regions to access professional dental services nearby.

Chen Yi-zhen, Dental Department Director at Pingtung Hospital, stated that the success of removable dentures relies on mutual trust and cooperation between doctors and patients. Through proper adaptation and adjustments, elderly patients can regain normal eating habits and improved quality of life.

The county government noted that elderly individuals in remote and disadvantaged areas have long suffered from dental issues due to limited transportation, financial constraints, and insufficient medical resources. Moving forward, it will continue integrating healthcare resources, enhancing the capacity of oral health services, expanding support for vulnerable and aging populations, and building a more comprehensive age-friendly care system.
