Tainan's 'Yi-Ju Xiao-Dong' social housing project celebrated its official move-in day today, with Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che attending the ceremony and presenting welcome gifts to congratulate new residents on starting their new lives in social housing.
Mayor Huang stated that 'Yi-Ju Xiao-Dong' is a social housing complex self-developed by the Tainan City Government. Located near National Cheng Kung University Hospital, Tainan Park, schools, and Tainan Railway Station, the development features integrated facilities including a kindergarten, day care center for seniors, and retail spaces to support child-rearing, elderly care, and daily living needs. Over 140 households have already moved in.
According to the city government, applications for 'Yi-Ju Xiao-Dong' opened on December 11 of last year, receiving a total of 3,103 applications. After review, 2,944 applications were qualified, and 376 households were selected by lottery, resulting in a selection rate of nearly 13%. Notably, 10% of the rental units were reserved for 'marriage and child-rearing households' to help newlywed couples and families with children reduce the financial burden of establishing a household and raising children. Move-ins began progressively starting May 27.
In addition, in coordination with the 'Yi-Ju Xiao-Dong' construction, the city government secured subsidies from the central government's Forward-Looking Infrastructure Program to build an underground parking facility. The parking lot offers 344 car parking spaces and opened for use on May 25, becoming Tainan City's first publicly owned underground parking facility integrated with social housing. It is expected to serve as a key parking and transfer hub near Tainan Railway Station.
