(Central News Agency reporter Li Hsien-feng, Hualien County, June 16) In response to World Vision Taiwan's '30-Hour Famine Humanitarian Relief Campaign,' Hualien County Magistrate Hsu Chen-wei called on county government and affiliated agency staff to make voluntary donations, raising over NT$200,000. World Vision will use the funds to support the education of more than 3,000 sponsored children in the county and assist in recovery efforts following the floods in Guangfu.

World Vision Taiwan held a press conference this morning to announce the county government's participation in the '30-Hour Famine' one-day meal donation campaign. President Li Shao-ling expressed gratitude to the Hualien County Government for its long-standing support of World Vision's services, and thanked county staff and personnel from various agencies for their compassionate response to the campaign. He emphasized that every donation will become a vital support for vulnerable children and families.

Li shared World Vision's post-disaster efforts following the overflow of the Matapang Creek, explaining that in response to the impact of the disaster, the organization has provided emergency relief and livelihood support, while continuing to accompany affected families in restoring stability. Through community resilience-building programs, World Vision is helping residents enhance their capacity to respond to and recover from disasters, working together to build more resilient communities.

Magistrate Hsu stated that World Vision has long been deeply rooted in Hualien, engaging in humanitarian relief both domestically and internationally, and working closely within indigenous communities and neighborhoods to support psychological rehabilitation for the elderly, emotional care for children, and post-disaster home repairs. She emphasized that only through close collaboration among government, civil groups, and families—connecting points, lines, and surfaces—can a tight 'social safety net' be woven to ensure that remote and vulnerable communities receive warm and comprehensive care.

In light of frequent earthquakes and extreme climate disasters in recent years, Hsu expressed special appreciation to county staff, acknowledging that despite increased workloads due to frequent natural disasters and limited staffing, everyone has continued to move forward courageously and responsibly.

Hsu encouraged everyone with the words, 'It's okay to cry, but never give up,' emphasizing that sorrow is temporary, and only through persistent effort can communities rebuild. This 'one-day donation' embodies the spirit of 'feeling others' hunger as your own, feeling others' drowning as your own,' and she hopes this small act of kindness will generate significant impact, bringing warmth and strength to families in urgent need across Hualien.
