This year, Chongqing has seen major political turbulence, beginning with the investigation of former mayor Hu Henghua and the sudden death of Vice Mayor and Public Security Chief Zhang Anjiang.

On Wednesday, Chongqing Party Secretary Yuan Jiajun presided over a work成果 exchange meeting on the 'Establishing and Practicing the Correct Performance Outlook' educational campaign, where he emphasized placing 'loyal performance of duties' as the top priority and resolutely safeguarding the authority of the Central Party leadership.

According to the Chongqing Daily, Yuan stated that political capability must be continuously strengthened, and officials must remain vigilant in upholding 'integrity and clean governance.' He called for a comprehensive and thorough elimination of toxic influences, continuous repair and purification of the political ecosystem, and strict adherence to the principle of 'executing all orders and prohibiting all bans.'

Yuan also addressed the nationwide 'Correct Performance Outlook' education campaign, urging officials to clearly recognize existing problems in Chongqing's performance evaluation culture and guide party members and cadres to improve ideological understanding and correct their direction of action.

Since early this year, Hu Henghua had repeatedly missed public events in Chongqing, fueling online speculation about his investigation. On March 20, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and National Supervisory Commission confirmed he was under investigation for 'serious violations of discipline and law,' verifying the rumors.

Following Hu, Luo Lin, a member of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and Party Secretary of Liangjiang New Area, was announced under investigation on April 17. As of now, both Hu and Luo remain in suspended positions.

On May 7, the Chongqing Daily reported that Vice Mayor and Public Security Chief Zhang Anjiang had died 'suddenly from illness despite emergency treatment,' sparking widespread speculation. The incident drew comparisons to the 2012 case of then-Vice Mayor and Police Chief Wang Lijun, who fled to the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu, leading some to mock the position as 'high-risk.'
