The Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau held the inauguration ceremony for its 'Zhonghe Investigation Campus New Construction Project' today. Director-General Chen Bai-li said the new facility, completed after four years of construction at a total cost of approximately NT$1.4 billion, is the largest construction project in the bureau's history. Its opening will enhance national security investigations and criminal investigative capabilities.
Premier Cho Jung-tai presided over the ceremony, joined by Minister of Justice Cheng Ming-chien, Director-General Chen Bai-li, and three former bureau directors: former Minister of Justice Tsai Ching-hsiang, Chief Prosecutor Lu Wen-chung of the Supreme Prosecutors Office, and Taipei District Prosecutors Office Chief Prosecutor Wang Chun-li. Together, they unveiled the red cloth covering the signboard, celebrating the official launch of the new campus.
In his speech, Premier Cho emphasized that the Investigation Bureau is a critical national security force in combating major crimes. He highlighted that national security, anti-corruption, and drug control remain major national challenges. He urged frontline investigators to closely collaborate and use cutting-edge technology to counter increasingly sophisticated and evolving threats.
Minister Cheng noted that the Zhonghe campus construction is the largest project ever undertaken by the Investigation Bureau. Despite challenges such as the pandemic, labor shortages, and material supply issues during construction, the project was completed ahead of schedule, setting a benchmark for other Ministry of Justice projects. It received the Ministry of Labor's Golden Safety Award for Excellence in 2023 (Minguo Year 112). The new campus will provide a safe, comfortable, modern, and technology-driven work environment, boosting staff morale and operational efficiency.
Director-General Chen expressed deep gratitude, stating that the new campus resolves long-standing space shortages for forensic science laboratories and regional investigation offices. The project, which took 11 years to plan, consolidates the Forensic Science Division, New Taipei City Investigation Office, National Security Protection Task Force, and Northern Regional Mobile Task Force into a single integrated campus.
The construction plan was approved by the Executive Yuan in late 2018 (Minguo Year 107), involving four new buildings. With a total budget of approximately NT$1.4 billion, construction began in December 2020 (Minguo Year 109) and was completed in 2024 (Minguo Year 113). As the largest construction project in bureau history, the campus integrates frontline case handling with backend forensic technology support, significantly enhancing investigative effectiveness.
