Creating a new highlight for the city and boosting tourism appeal, Hualien City Government has installed an outdoor glasses-free 3D LED wall. During its test run last night, the display attracted numerous residents who stopped to watch. Ragdoll cats and tortoises appeared to leap out of the screen through stereoscopic visual effects, sparking public anticipation for the official launch of its full content.

Hualien Mayor Wei Jia-yan stated that glasses-free 3D technology has become a major trend in international city marketing, with many renowned cities using large-scale outdoor digital displays to attract tourists. The city government aims to leverage innovative digital technology to create a new type of public space that combines tourism appeal, artistic expression, and municipal communication—making information delivery more dynamic and adding fresh visual charm to the city.

The 3D LED wall features Ragdoll cats and tortoises as main characters, using refined animation design integrated with elements of the Hualien City Government’s office environment and playful storylines to create an immersive experience where characters appear to move between real and virtual spaces.

Xu Guo-cheng, head of the Construction Division at Hualien City Government, explained that the current testing phase focuses on verifying optimal viewing angles, screen resolution, animation smoothness, and overall visual impact. Subsequent steps include adding background music, character voiceovers, and fine-tuning details. After completion of the acceptance process, the wall will be officially launched. In the future, in addition to original 3D animations, the display will serve as a key platform for municipal announcements, tourism promotion, festive performances, and public information dissemination.

Mayor Wei emphasized that Hualien boasts exceptional natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage. While continuing to develop tourism infrastructure, the city also aims to inject youthful energy through the integration of technology and creativity. Once officially launched, the glasses-free 3D LED wall is expected to become a new nighttime landmark and popular photo spot, attracting more visitors to stop, take photos, and learn about Hualien—further boosting local tourism and enhancing the city’s brand visibility.
