(Central News Agency reporter Yu Hsiao-han, Taipei, June 16) A travel company today unveiled the 2026 'Traveller Review Awards,' with Makung City in Penghu not only claiming the title of Taiwan's most hospitable city, but Penghu County also securing first place as the 'Most Welcoming Destination in Taiwan.'
Travel platform Booking.com held a press conference today to announce key trends from the 2026 Traveller Review Awards in Taiwan.
Booking.com reported that a total of 7,853 accommodations in Taiwan received awards this year, a 2.7% increase from last year. Globally, Taiwan ranked 26th in number of award recipients and 7th in the Asia-Pacific region, demonstrating the consistent competitiveness of Taiwan's lodging sector in service quality and traveler satisfaction.
The company highlighted that Makung City in Penghu County not only topped the 'Most Hospitable City in Taiwan' ranking, but Penghu County as a whole also claimed first place in the 'Most Welcoming Destination in Taiwan' category.
Booking.com noted that Taiwan's accommodation market demonstrates strong service resilience and diverse local characteristics. The recognition of 7,853 properties this year underscores the international competitiveness of Taiwan's hospitality spirit in the global tourism market.
The company stated it will continue to deepen its commitment to the Taiwan market through three strategic directions: collaborating with small and medium-sized accommodations and local governments to build a more sustainable and resilient tourism ecosystem; integrating local experiential offerings to help travelers deeply engage with Taiwanese culture; and leveraging technology and AI-powered trip planning tools to reduce booking barriers and enable international travelers to explore Taiwan more easily.
According to the 2026 Booking.com Traveller Review Awards rankings in Taiwan, the top five 'Most Welcoming Destinations in Taiwan' are Penghu County, Kinmen County, Hualien County, Taitung County, and Hengchun Township in Pingtung County.
The top five 'Most Hospitable Cities in Taiwan' are Makung City in Penghu County, Hengchun Township in Pingtung County, Wujie Township in Yilan County, Ji’an Township in Hualien County, and Touceng Township in Yilan County. This highlights how local hospitality in Taiwan's offshore islands, eastern regions, coastal areas, and slow-travel destinations is gaining significant attention from global travelers.
