(Central News Agency reporter Wang Hong-guo, New Taipei, June 14) — To celebrate the 128th anniversary of Philippine independence, the New Taipei City Labor Bureau, in collaboration with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, hosted a vibrant celebration that attracted numerous Filipino migrant workers. Attendees immersed themselves in a summer carnival brimming with Filipino passion and energy.
According to a press release from the New Taipei City Labor Bureau, the city government held the Philippine Independence Day event today at the Banqiao Sports Center. New Taipei Deputy Secretary-General Ko Ching-chung and Philippine Representative to Taiwan Corazon A. Padiernos exchanged commemorative gifts, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.
The festivities included a fun run and basketball tournament, along with captivating dance performances. The highlight was a live performance by the popular Filipino P-POP girl group YARA, whose energetic songs and choreography ignited the crowd with continuous cheers. This was followed by a migrant worker band competition, further amplifying the excitement throughout the venue.
Ko Ching-chung expressed gratitude, stating, "Our Filipino friends have traveled far from home to work in Taiwan, making significant contributions to our social stability, industrial development, and family harmony. The friendship between Taiwan and the Philippines remains unbreakable."
Representative Padiernos expressed appreciation, saying, "We are deeply grateful for New Taipei City’s warm hospitality and the recognition given to Filipino workers and residents.
