Key News on the U.S.-Iran War

(Central News Agency, Washington, 13th - Comprehensive International Report) U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to discuss mine clearance operations in the Strait of Hormuz and measures to assist in ending the war with Iran during next week's Group of Seven (G7) summit.

The summit will be held from the 15th to the 17th in Évian, France.

According to an Associated Press report, a senior U.S. official, speaking anonymously under White House rules, stated that President Trump plans to hold sideline meetings with the leaders of Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates during the G7 summit starting on the 15th to discuss collaborative actions toward ending the conflict with Iran.

Both the United Kingdom and France, as fellow G7 members, have expressed interest in assisting with mine clearance in the Strait of Hormuz following a temporary ceasefire. The official noted that both countries have already deployed naval vessels and are expected to participate in the operations.

The exact number of mines laid in the Strait of Hormuz remains unclear. After the United States and Israel conducted joint airstrikes on Iran in late February, Iran launched retaliatory attacks in the region, effectively halting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and bringing oil and natural gas shipments from the Persian Gulf to a near standstill. The U.S. responded by blockading Iranian ports.

The warring parties reached a fragile ceasefire on April 7, but a formal end-of-war agreement has not yet been achieved.

Reuters reported that, in parallel, a team of senior U.S. officials indicated President Trump will attend a working session with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the G7 summit.

Officials added that while no formal bilateral meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy is scheduled, the two leaders may meet informally on the sidelines of the summit.

Additionally, one official stated that President Trump also plans to discuss shared concerns with other leaders, including economic growth and development, supply chain resilience, illegal immigration, and artificial intelligence (AI). He will also work to secure supply chains for critical minerals essential to advanced technologies. (Translation: Tsai Chia-min) 1150614
