(Central News Agency reporter Guo Xuanwen, Hsinchu County, 11th) The Hsinchu County Cultural Bureau announced that the Cao Yu Tian Dance Theatre will represent Taiwan at the 'Taiwan Season' of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the UK, and held a flag-giving ceremony for the performance team today.
According to data from the Hsinchu County Cultural Bureau, the Cao Yu Tian Dance Theatre was recognized by the National Culture and Arts Foundation last year, becoming the first dance team in the Hsinchu area to be selected for the Taiwan Top dance category. It also passed the selection process of the Ministry of Culture and will represent Taiwan at the 'Taiwan Season' of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the UK.
The Hsinchu County Cultural Bureau held a flag-giving ceremony for the Cao Yu Tian Dance Theatre today. Troupe leader Wang Yujing stated on-site that they will travel to the UK in August 2026, performing a total of 22 shows over one month at the Scottish National Dance Centre (Dance Base).
The Cao Yu Tian Dance Theatre stated in a written release that the 'Taiwan Season' of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is now in its 13th year, serving as a crucial platform for Taiwanese performing arts to go international. Participating teams must first pass a preliminary selection by the festival's partner venues and professional curators, followed by a secondary selection by experts and scholars convened by the Ministry of Culture.
The Cao Yu Tian Dance Theatre noted that the work to be performed in the UK is the Taiwan-France international co-production 'Proximities'. The piece explores the relationships between people and between individuals and groups, prompting audiences to contemplate alienation and intimacy in interpersonal relationships. It was previously performed in Singapore, Laos, and other locations between 2024 and 2025, and completed a tour of 12 performances in Taipei, Taichung, and Hsinchu in 2025.
