(CNA reporter Su Chih-Yu, Taipei, June 11) The CTBC Brothers of the Chinese Professional Baseball League demoted pitcher Cheng Hao-Chun to the second team on June 6. After medical examinations yesterday, it was confirmed that muscle tightness had compressed a nerve, though no serious injury was found. He will now be under daily observation, awaiting his return to the first team.
Cheng was pulled from his starting appearance on June 5 after issuing a walk in the fifth inning, initially due to muscle tightness. He was subsequently demoted to the second team on June 6 for rest and recovery. Brothers manager Hirano Keiichi, speaking to the media before today’s game, stated that the muscle tension had led to nerve compression, adding, "This is not very common among pitchers."
Regarding when Cheng might return to the first team, Hirano said he was not a doctor and would have to rely on the assessment of the medical and training staff. The team later clarified that tests showed no significant issues, and Cheng is currently undergoing muscle relaxation therapy, with his recovery progress monitored on a daily basis.
