(CNA, Reporter Kang Yi-ching, Yunlin County, 10th) The Tuku Township Office in Yunlin County and the Department of Agricultural Science and Technology at National Formosa University (NFU) signed a "Letter of Intent for Smart Agriculture Cooperation Platform" today. They will jointly establish an industry-demand-oriented smart agriculture cooperation platform, promoting agricultural digital transformation and sustainable development through collaboration between industry, government, and academia.
The Tuku Township Office held a press conference for the signing of the letter of intent today, with Tuku Mayor Chen Te-kai and Pao Chien-kuo, head of NFU's Department of Agricultural Science and Technology, representing both parties. The signing was witnessed by Huang Wan-tsung, general manager of the Tuku Farmers' Association, and Chang Che-wei, president of the Tuku Young Farmers' Fellowship.
According to statistics from the Tuku Township Office, the cultivated land area in Tuku is nearly 2,800 hectares, with about 4,000 farming households.
Mayor Chen stated that in the future, they will jointly invite experts and scholars to form a working group to devise feasible policies on issues such as smart agriculture. They also plan to regularly organize observation exchanges and educational training to deepen the cooperation between industry and the university. Concurrently, they will match local farmers to serve as off-campus internship sites for students in the agricultural science department, allowing students to strengthen their professional skills and industry integration experience through practical participation, further creating new opportunities for local agricultural transformation.
Pao Chien-kuo said that the department's professional faculty will assist in digitizing cultivation techniques, recording the dosage of fertilizers and water given to crops by various farmers, and documenting farming skills to help pass on agricultural experience. Furthermore, the department currently has 8 professional faculty members specializing in diverse fields such as production, processing, and marketing, and hopes to introduce this professional team to assist in Tuku Township's agricultural transformation.
Facing the trend of smart and digital development, the Tuku Township Office and NFU hope that through this cooperation, they can further systematize and digitize local agricultural experience and technical knowledge. By combining innovative technologies such as AI, big data analytics, smart sensing, and information technology, they aim to enhance agricultural production efficiency and management effectiveness, expand applications to more farmers and agricultural operations, and realize the vision of empowering agriculture with technology.
