(CNA, by Wang Shu-fen, Taipei, 9th) Premier Cho Jung-tai stated today that the Executive Yuan has approved an increase in the supervisory allowances for Taiwan Railways (TRC) and its subsidiary branches, aiming to improve the long-standing and highly unreasonable situation regarding supervisors' work distribution and pay. The effective date is retroactive to June 1.

The Taiwan Railways Corporation held a celebration for the "115th Railway Festival (TRC 139th Anniversary)" this morning, during which Premier Cho mentioned in his speech the official document from the Executive Yuan approving the raise in supervisory allowances, retroactive to June 1.

Cho said that for a long time, there were only eight levels for supervisory positions at TRC, which created many highly unreasonable scenarios in work distribution and compensation. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications proposed a plan to increase the supervisory allowances, and after repeated reviews, the Executive Yuan decided that adjustments were necessary.

Cho stated that the Executive Yuan has agreed to increase the supervisory allowances, expanding the levels from 8 to 12. The adjustments will be greater for more junior-level positions to encourage TRC employees to take on supervisory roles. Although it means more responsibility, it also represents a greater contribution to the country, more effort for the people, and an increase in TRC's efficiency.

Following the event, Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Shih-kai told the media that in the past, there were situations where supervisors' salaries were lower than those of their staff, causing many talented employees to be unwilling to become supervisors. Now that the supervisory allowance system has been reformed, supervisors can receive better pay while shouldering their responsibilities.
