(Central News Agency, reporter Tseng Yun-ting, Taipei, 9th) The Department of Industrial Technology of the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced today that it recently organized a "6G Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation Expansion Delegation" to attend the 2026 EuCNC & 6G Summit in Malaga, Spain. In addition to showcasing Taiwan's R&D achievements in 6G and satellite ground equipment, the delegation facilitated the signing of an MOU between the European 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) and the Taiwan 6G Industry Forum (6GIF). It also witnessed the launch of a collaboration on Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technology between the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), deepening the R&D links between Taiwan and Europe in 6G.

The Department released a press statement today indicating that the delegation attended the EuCNC & 6G Summit in Malaga, Spain from June 2nd to 5th. The delegation brought together industry, academia, and research units including the Taiwan 6G Industry Forum (6GIF), MediaTek, Compal Electronics, TMYTEK, Metanoia, Auden Techno, Tay-Yeh, Long-Chen, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Tsing Hua University, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), and the Institute for Information Industry (III), to jointly display Taiwan's R&D results and industrial strength in the next-generation communications field.

The Department stated that EuCNC is the most representative international event in the European communications systems and networks field, and a crucial platform for global 6G technology R&D and future network development. This year's event attracted over 1,300 representatives from industry and research institutions from more than 40 countries.

During the exhibition, the delegation held a "Taiwan Special Session" technical seminar, where the Department and the European Commission's DG CNECT jointly witnessed the exchange ceremony of the Taiwan-Europe industry cooperation memorandum. Furthermore, ITRI signed a cooperation agreement with TNO of the Netherlands. The two parties will commence R&D cooperation on key ISAC technologies, further deepening exchanges between Taiwan and Europe in areas such as 6G R&D, experimental validation, and standards cooperation.

The Department pointed out that, in line with the Executive Yuan's "Next-Generation Communication Technology Development Program," the Ministry of Economic Affairs has already invested in the R&D of key technologies such as 6G base station chip modules, ISAC, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), intelligent network management, and a 6G experimental network. In April of this year, it also launched a call for proposals for the "A+ Industrial Innovative R&D Program - Next-Generation Communications Project" to encourage businesses to complete their technology and product positioning before 6G international standards are finalized.

The Department stated that after facilitating the signing of the MOU between the 6G-IA and the 6GIF, the two parties will use the association platform to promote the participation of Taiwanese businesses in EU 6G R&D programs, experimental network construction, and field trial cooperation, assisting domestic industry to integrate into the international supply chain and technology cooperation system ahead of time.

The Department noted that according to the current plan, 6G international standards are expected to be released in the first quarter of 2029. Global 6G development is gradually moving from R&D towards multinational validation, field applications, and ecosystem integration. Leveraging its advantages in the semiconductor and ICT industries, as well as its complete communications supply chain foundation, Taiwan is well-positioned to become a key global partner in 6G. In the future, it will continue to assist businesses in grasping 6G development opportunities through scientific research investment, international cooperation, and industrial innovation promotion.
