(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 8) Independent legislator Kao Chin Su-mei was indicted today by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office on charges of corruption, among others, for allegedly embezzling a total of approximately NT$7.87 million in assistant fees. Her assistant, Chang Chun-chieh, was also indicted for fraudulently obtaining approximately NT$9.33 million in subsidies. The prosecutors indicted Kao and 23 other individuals, seeking a sentence of at least 12 years and 6 months for Kao and at least 16 years for Chang.
The Taipei District Prosecutors Office had been investigating Kao's alleged fraudulent claims for assistant fees. On February 10, investigators from the National Security Station of the Investigation Bureau conducted searches at 30 locations and summoned Kao and others for questioning. The investigation was concluded and the indictment was announced today.
