Taiwan Stock Market Plunges 1,568.16 Points

(Central News Agency, Taipei, 8th) The Taipei stock market opened low and continued to decline today, closing down 1,568.16 points at 43,502.78 points, a drop of 3.48%. Trading value reached NT$1.132531 trillion.

The TAIEX (Weighted Index) opened at 44,507.49 points, with a high of 44,507.49 and a low of 42,376.86 points. The index excluding financial stocks closed at 39,256.57 points, down 1,436.68 points.

Changes among the eight major stock categories: Cement stocks fell 4.37%, Food stocks fell 1.54%, Plastics & Chemicals fell 4.16%, Textiles fell 2.92%, Electrical & Machinery fell 3.59%, Paper & Pulp fell 2.14%, Construction fell 2.3%, and Financials fell 2.83%.

Buy orders totaled 25,637,653 lots, sell orders 17,531,716 lots, and executed trades 14,212,995 lots.

At the close, 90 stocks advanced, 974 declined, and 37 remained unchanged.

The top five stocks by trading volume were Yuanta Taiwan 50 Positive 2, Active Uni-President Upgrade 50, Active Uni-President Taiwan Stock Growth, KGI Taiwan TOP50, and Yuanta Taiwan 50.

The top five gainers were Jarllytec, Heran, SciVision Biotech, Syncmold Enterprise, and Chia Her Industrial.

The top five losers were Leatec Fine Ceramics, Jih Cheng-KY, Strong Fortress, AP Memory, and Formosa Sumco Technology.
