Veteran musician Kay Huang recently shared her journey of chasing stars and breaking into the music scene. During her student years, she would wait to catch a glimpse of Fong Fei-fei and Liu Wen-cheng, and at 17, she taught Terry Hu piano. Later, she joined Rock Records as an intern, and one day was notified that she could release an album; the person who took over her intern position was Wakin Chau.
In the reality talk show "Sit Down and Chat," Huang shared her story of aspiring to a music career from a young age. She revealed through a press release that, born into a musical family, she learned piano as a child and her biggest dream was to become a film score composer, inspired by the movie "Cloud of Romance" directed by Liu Chia-chang.
As a student, Huang was a typical star chaser. To block the queen of song Fong Fei-fei, she waited at the stairwell of her residence, only to meet Fong's mother who told her to "go home and do your homework!"
Additionally, Huang once waited at the entrance of Taiwan Television (TTV) for the king of song Liu Wen-cheng, simply because she believed in her heart that "one day I will meet Liu Wen-cheng."
She recalled that her school bag was always filled with handwritten music sheets, some even with lyrics, her biggest dream being to one day give a song she wrote to her idol Fong Fei-fei to perform.
Furthermore, when Huang was 17, musician Jonathan Lee invited her to sing the theme song for the movie "Growing Up," which brought her into the spotlight. Later, she received a call from singer Lo Ta-yu, which started her musical enlightenment.
She said she once accompanied Lo Ta-yu to a meeting where heavyweight figures like director Edward Yang and actress Sylvia Chang were present. She was also unexpectedly assigned to teach the lead actress, Terry Hu, how to play the piano, exclaiming that her life was full of incredible encounters.
Later, Huang became an intern at Rock Records, responsible for changing water, washing teacups, and mailing records every day. One day, her boss informed her to prepare to release an album as a singer, and another newcomer would take over her job. That newcomer was the future national king of song, Wakin Chau.
Huang happily laughed, saying that she was the arranger for Wakin Chau's entire debut album, "The Direction of the Heart."
