(CNA, by Jian-Zhong Li, Taipei, 7th) In the third round of the 2026 U.S. Women's Open today, Wu Jia-yan, the only Taiwanese player to make the cut, shot 4 birdies and 5 bogeys for a score of 72. Her three-day total of 218 strokes, 5 over par, places her in a temporary tie for 46th place.

The U.S. Women's Open, organized by the United States Golf Association (USGA), features a total prize purse of $12 million (approximately NT$370 million). The event is being held at The Riviera Country Club in California, which is also the designated venue for the golf competition at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Taiwan was represented by Tseng Yani, Chien Pei-Yun, Wu Jia-yan, and amateur player Lin Chieh-En in this year's U.S. Open. However, after the first two rounds, only the first-time participant Wu made the cut.

On the third round, known as 'moving day,' Wu started with a birdie on the 1st hole but immediately bogeyed the 2nd after her tee shot landed in the long grass. She finished the front nine with 2 birdies and 3 bogeys, causing her ranking to drop.

After making the turn, Wu played steadily, scoring a birdie on the 11th hole. Unfortunately, she followed with bogeys on the 13th and 16th. However, Wu ended on a high note with a solid birdie on the par-4 18th hole.

The 22-year-old Wu primarily competes on the Japan Ladies Professional Golfers' Association (JLPGA) tour, where she has accumulated two wins so far. She earned her first-ever ticket to the U.S. Open this year through the regional qualifier in Japan.

Former world No. 1 Nelly Korda of the USA, who won this year's first LPGA major, The Chevron Championship, followed her first-round 73 with two consecutive days of 67. This performance brought her to a total of 207, tying for the lead with South Korea's Kim Sei-young after three rounds. (Editor: Ming-Kun Chang) 1150607
