Heavy Rain Warning in Southern Taiwan Expected to Last Until Evening; Kaohsiung and Pingtung Alerted for Severe Thunderstorms

(CNA Reporter Chang Hsiung-feng, Taipei, 7th) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) today issued a heavy rain advisory for the Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung areas, expected to last until this evening. A separate alert for severe thunderstorms was issued for Kaohsiung and Pingtung, warning of short-duration intense rainfall accompanied by strong wind gusts, lightning, and thunder.

The CWA issued the heavy rain advisory this morning due to the vigorous development of convective cloud systems, which can easily lead to short-duration heavy rainfall. The southern region should be on alert for localized heavy rain, paying attention to lightning and strong wind gusts. In mountainous areas, caution is advised for potential landslides and rockfalls.

The heavy rain areas include Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and the Hengchun Peninsula.

Additionally, the CWA issued a real-time message for severe thunderstorms in Kaohsiung and Pingtung, warning of short-duration intense rainfall accompanied by strong wind gusts, lightning, and thunder.
