(CNA, Tainan, June 6, by reporter Chang Jung-hsiang) With frequent incidents of drug-driving, the Tainan City Government yesterday released information on two repeat drug-driving offenders. Statistics from the Tainan City Police Department show that from January to May this year, Tainan City saw 690 cases of drug-driving, an increase of 358 cases, or about double, compared to the same period last year.

The Tainan City Police Department stated today that it has cooperated with the Tainan City Traffic Adjudication Center to release information on 30 repeat drug (and alcohol) driving offenders, including 2 for drug-driving and 28 for drink-driving. Their names and photos have been fully disclosed, hoping that public information and societal supervision will increase alertness among violators and deter re-offending.

The City Police Department told a CNA reporter that as of May this year, Tainan City had recorded 690 drug-driving cases, an increase of 358 cases from 332 in the same period last year, marking a 107.8% increase. The police will continue to strengthen patrols and roadside checks for drug-driving.

Police explained that drug-driving faces administrative penalties such as heavy fines, license revocation, and vehicle impoundment. It also involves criminal liability under the Public Danger Offense in the Criminal Code. If it results in serious injury or death to others, the penalties will be more severe, and one should not take chances. (Editor: Lee Shu-hua) 1150606
