(Central News Agency, Reporter Zheng Weizhen, Nantou, 6th) The Nantou County Government Police Department's Puli District issued a press release today stating that it had executed a special project to strengthen the crackdown on drug-impaired driving. Over three days, it investigated five cases of public endangerment, including drunk driving, refusal to take a test, and drug driving. It will continue to strengthen roadblocks and trace the origins of these crimes, enforcing the law forcefully to protect public safety.
The Puli District pointed out that early on the morning of May 28, officers from the Lihtan Police Station found a man surnamed Li riding a motorcycle illegally over the edge line, showing obvious signs of intoxication and smelling of alcohol. His breathalyzer reading was 0.55 milligrams, and he was sent for prosecution under the public endangerment offense. That same evening, the Traffic Squad, while handling an accident at the intersection of Longsheng Road and Nan'an Road in Puli Township, found a motorcycle rider surnamed Liao in possession of a smoking device suspected of being used for Etomidate. A rapid drug test showed a positive reaction, and subsequent urine collection was completed for legal investigation.
On the morning of May 29, officers from the Lihtan Police Station, while on patrol, uncovered a case involving a man surnamed Hsu and a woman surnamed Shen suspected of drug-impaired driving. Hsu exhibited abnormal mental state during the stop, and suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia were found in his backpack. A rapid drug test was positive, leading to his arrest, which was approved by the prosecutor after an interrogation. Shen was found in possession of amphetamines and paraphernalia. After testing positive, she was transferred for investigation under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act and public endangerment charges.
The following evening, officers from the Puli Police Station stopped a driver of a micro electric two-wheeled vehicle who was driving erratically and not wearing a helmet. The driver showed signs of intoxication and smelled of alcohol, and refused to take a breathalyzer test. The police issued a citation for refusal and reported the related violations.
Puli District Chief Chen Mengjun stated that both drug-impaired and alcohol-impaired driving severely affect a driver's judgment and reaction time, posing a high risk to all road users. In the future, the district will continue to cooperate with the National Police Agency's special projects, strengthening roadblocks, tracing the origins of crime, and using technological investigation methods. They will enforce the law forcefully against drunk driving, drug driving, and drug crimes to protect the lives and property of the public. (Editor: Li Shuhua) June 6, 2026
