(Central News Agency, Brussels, 5th, Combined Foreign Reports) US Ambassador to the European Union, Andrew Puzder, said today that as the United States and China wage an "artificial intelligence (AI) war," Europe should side with Washington, expressing concern over the European Union's (EU) attempts to "decouple" from the US in the technology sector.

According to AFP, the EU this week unveiled a plan aimed at reducing its technological dependence on the US and Asia, including prioritizing European companies in the most sensitive public procurement cases, such as cloud computing and AI.

When asked about this at the Economic Security Forum held in the Belgian capital Brussels, Puzder said he had not yet studied the details but was generally concerned about the direction of developments. "When Europe tries to decouple from the US on these technology issues, it does worry me," he said.

Puzder pointed out, "We are in an AI war with China. I believe it is crucial for Western civilization that the US wins," adding that if Beijing prevails, it might use its technological advantages through economic coercion, which would be detrimental to Europe.

He emphasized, "It is very important for Europe to maintain a partnership with the United States."

The EU's proposed "technological sovereignty" plan focuses on strengthening local manufacturing capabilities in key technology sectors, enabling Europe to catch up with the US and China.

The European Commission (EC) calls this an existential issue for the EU, as non-European companies currently supply over 80% of the EU's digital products, services, infrastructure, and intellectual property.

However, Europe has yet to produce an AI giant and has long been hampered by high energy costs. Puzder warned that Europe is far from "catching up on its own" in the AI race and stated, "Europe can catch up by cooperating with the United States, which is a situation we would welcome."
