Man indicted for stabbing two people in front of police station, Tainan court orders 3-month detention

(CNA reporter Chang Jung-hsiang, Tainan, June 2) A man surnamed Chen in Tainan City attacked passersby with a knife in front of the Jinhua Police Station in the South District this February, injuring two people. Chen also wounded himself. The Tainan District Prosecutors Office concluded the investigation today, indicting him for attempted murder and transferring the case to the Tainan District Court, which ordered a 3-month detention. The Tainan District Court pointed out today that Chen is charged with the serious crime of attempted murder and assault. At the time, he randomly attacked passersby in the chest, abdomen, and back, and chased one of them to the police station before being subdued by officers. He even claimed he attacked because he thought they were police, showing a disregard for the law and a pattern of violence. As he stated he has no fixed address, the court ordered him detained for 3 months starting June 2nd. The case is subject to appeal. Police investigations revealed that the 29-year-old suspect was an employee at a local wellness center. On February 3rd at around 8 PM, he used a foot massage knife to attack a man surnamed Li and a woman surnamed Yeh on the crosswalk in front of the Jinhua Police Station. Li fled to the police station for help, and Chen followed him outside before being subdued by police.
