Taichung to Demolish 'Bamboo Pavilion' by End of June, Plans New Family Recreation Area

The 'Bamboo Pavilion,' a key landmark of the 2018 Taichung World Flora Expo located in Zone 4 of Huludun Park, Fengyuan District, is set to be demolished by the end of June due to structural aging caused by long-term exposure to the elements. The Taichung City Government plans to transform the site into a 'Paradise Zone' for family recreation. In a press release today, Chen Ta-tien, Director of the Construction Bureau, stated that the pavilion, completed during the 2018 Expo, became an iconic landmark due to its unique bamboo-woven design. The bureau noted that because the structure is made of natural bamboo, years of wind, sun, and rain have caused brittleness and peeling. Safety measures are in place, and demolition is scheduled for late June. The bureau added that the area will be developed into a 'Paradise Zone,' incorporating local industries like Fengyuan's pastries and woodwork to create a unique space. The first phase of improvements includes an inclusive playground and green spaces, with detailed design expected by late November.
