MOEA Pledges Support for Yunlin Huwei and Baozhong Industrial Parks

The Legislative Yuan's Economic Committee inspected the development progress of the Huwei and Baozhong industrial parks in Yunlin County today. Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin stated that the ministry fully supports the projects and is listening to local feedback. The Ministry of Agriculture reiterated its stance on protecting agricultural industries, requesting relevant units to explain the necessity of farmland conversion. Attendees included KMT Legislator Chang Chia-chun, TPP Legislators Hung Yu-hsiang and Tsai Chun-chu, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Hu Chung-i, and Deputy Minister of the National Science and Technology Council Su Chen-kang. Kung stated that the 265.25-hectare Baozhong Industrial Park aims to pass the second-stage environmental impact assessment by mid-2027, serving as a key driver for agricultural value-added services and agricultural technology. He promised strict pollution control, excluding high-pollution processes to balance environmental protection and economic development. Furthermore, he noted that the Executive Yuan's 100 billion NTD flood control plan will help resolve flooding without competing with farmers for water. Regarding the Huwei site, Hu Chung-i pointed out that it is prime farmland with complete irrigation, requiring justification for any major public interest to justify conversion. Chang Chia-chun expressed that the parks will provide land for corporate investment and create massive job opportunities, giving Yunlin an advantage in both agriculture and industry. Local groups also submitted concerns regarding water, employment, and environmental pollution.
