Taoyuan Police Dog Unit Breaks Ground on New Facility, Completion Set for June 2027

Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new police dog unit facility on Sunday. He stated that since its inception, the unit has performed excellently in drug detection, criminal investigation, and public safety operations, and he hopes to build a professional training base. The project is expected to be completed and operational by June next year. Mayor Chang visited Dayuan District for the ceremony. In his speech, he noted that police dogs are vital assistants in maintaining public order, and the facility must cater to care, training, and operational needs. The new site in Dayuan District will include a training ground on the rooftop, allowing handlers and dogs to train nearby and improve response capabilities. The Taoyuan Police Department stated that the unit recruited handlers in March 2024 and introduced working dogs in May. After six months of intensive training, the unit was officially commissioned on December 12, 2024. Currently, they support large-scale event security and criminal investigations. The unit is temporarily stationed at the Daxi Precinct's Sanceng Police Station. The new facility will include offices, public service areas, kennels, and a dedicated training ground.
