Man and Woman Camping in Nan'ao, Yilan Swept Away by Waves; Woman Rescued After Reporting Coordinates via Smartphone, Man Still Missing

A woman surnamed Pan and a man surnamed Huang were swept away by waves while camping near the sea caves at Nan'ao Mysterious Beach in Yilan County yesterday. While drifting at sea, Pan managed to hold onto her backpack, calmly reported the incident to the fire department, and provided her coordinates using a built-in compass app on her smartphone. She was rescued in the early hours of today but was suffering from hypothermia. Huang remains missing, and search efforts are ongoing. After receiving the report at 10:26 PM yesterday, the Yilan County Fire Bureau dispatched personnel, vehicles, and boats for search and rescue. They also requested assistance from the Coast Guard Administration and a helicopter. Through continuous communication with Pan, rescuers learned she had become stuck in a set net while drifting and had grabbed a buoy. A helicopter arrived at the scene and hoisted Pan to a nearby beach shortly after midnight. Upon rescue, she was found to have no external injuries but was suffering from hypothermia; she remained conscious and was sent to the hospital for treatment. Regarding the missing Mr. Huang, the fire department dispatched three vehicles and six personnel this morning, coordinating with two Coast Guard vessels and 31 personnel to continue the search. They also requested assistance from the National Airborne Service Corps helicopter. The helicopter arrived at the scene around 9:00 AM, but as of 10:00 AM, Mr. Huang had not yet been found.
