Chiayi County Council Election Districts Adjusted: Total Seats Remain at 37

Central News Agency, Chiayi County, June 1. The Chiayi County Election Commission announced today that for the year-end county council election, due to population changes in electoral districts, the 2nd district (Minxiong Township and Xingang Township) will gain one seat, while the 3rd district (Dalin Township, Xikou Township, and Meishan Township) will lose one seat. The total number of seats remains unchanged at 37. Central Election Commission Chairman You Ying-lung inspected the Chiayi County Election Commission and received a briefing. The commission stated that the 2nd district will increase from 7 to 8 seats, and the 3rd district will decrease from 5 to 4 seats. The Chiayi County Election Commission noted that as of the end of April, the population of Chiayi County was 471,253. The preliminary plan for elected positions includes 1 county magistrate, 37 county councilors, 18 township mayors, 192 township representatives, and 358 village chiefs. The number of village chief seats increased by one compared to the last election due to the creation of Xinshan Village in Minxiong. The commission emphasized that the current seat counts, districts, and polling station information are 'preliminary calculations' and that official information will be subject to the final announcement by the Central Election Commission. You Ying-lung remarked that Taiwan is famous for democracy and technology, and that the election commission is vital to the democratic process, expressing full confidence in the Chiayi County commission. The Chiayi County Government stated it will fully cooperate with the central and county election commissions to ensure the election process is completed according to law.
