Chiayi Police Publish Names and Photos of 5 Repeat Drug-Driving Offenders

The Chiayi City Police Department published the names and photos of five repeat drug-driving offenders on their Facebook fan page today, hoping to strengthen deterrence through public disclosure. According to the police press release, the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act stipulates that drug-driving is punishable by fines, suspension or revocation of driver's licenses, and vehicle impoundment. For those who commit a second offense within 10 years or refuse testing, supervisory authorities may legally publish their names, photos, and facts of the violation. Police stated that they compiled the data provided by the Chiayi City Motor Vehicles Office to release the information. Police noted that since the national drug-driving rapid screening program began in Chiayi City on November 20 last year, 130 cases have been detected, with two individuals detained. The maximum fine for drug-driving is NT$120,000 (NT$90,000 for motorcycles), along with immediate vehicle impoundment and license suspension. Repeat offenses within 10 years result in a maximum fine of NT$120,000 and a three-year license suspension for the second offense, with penalties increasing for subsequent offenses.
