John Gant Leads CPBL in ERA with Signature 'Crab Pitch'

CNA Taipei, May 30. Wei Chuan Dragons starting pitcher John Gant has recently climbed to the top of the CPBL ERA rankings. His high strikeout rate is a stark contrast to his performance in Triple-A last year. Gant points out that the baseball systems in Taiwan and the US are vastly different. In the US, the use of an electronic strike zone has led to fewer swings and more walks, whereas in Taiwan, there is more aggressive hitting and more action on the field. His signature pitch, the 'Vulcan Changeup' (known locally as the 'Crab Pitch'), features a unique grip where the middle and index fingers are paired, and the ring and pinky fingers are paired on the sides of the ball. It is a rare pitch globally, which he has refined into a lethal weapon since his youth.
