The 4K digital restored version of "The Last Emperor," which swept 9 Academy Awards, has been in theaters for a week, attracting both new audiences and old fans. The distributor announced that a deep-dive lecture hosted by senior film critic Wen Tien-hsiang will be held tomorrow at the Ambassador Theater in Ximen. According to information provided by the film company, the premiere of "The Last Emperor" in Taiwan in 1988 was held at the Ambassador Theater in Ximen, marking a return to its historical origin after nearly 40 years. The distributor previously invited Wen Tien-hsiang, who is also the CEO of the Golden Horse Film Festival, to share insights, such as why the emperor speaks English in the film. He explained that the film is a co-production between the UK, Italy, France, and China, and the Chinese in the film was intentionally treated as "ambient sound," while meaningful dialogue was carried by English, which does not detract from its artistic achievement. Wen also revealed a cameo: director Chen Kaige was highly regarded by Bertolucci during the preparation period and even played the "Captain of the Imperial Guard," the tall officer who shouts "Close the gate!" when Puyi tries to rush out of the Forbidden City. Tomorrow at the Ambassador Theater, Wen will analyze the film under the theme "How The Last Emperor Became a Legend in Film History," and the audience will receive a movie poster.
