Supreme Court Overturns Yen Kuan-heng's Corruption Conviction, Remands Case

KMT legislator Yen Kuan-heng, accused of defrauding assistant fees through construction company head Lin Chin-fu, was sentenced to 7 years and 10 months in the second instance, while Lin received 7 years and 8 months. Following an appeal, the Supreme Court overturned the ruling today and remanded the case to the Taichung High Court for retrial. Regarding the reasons for the remand, the Supreme Court noted that Lin was seen wearing Yen's assistant vest while performing duties, raising doubts about whether he was a 'dummy' assistant. Additionally, there were discrepancies between the evidence and the verdict, requiring further investigation. According to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office, Yen is accused of illegally occupying state land for a mansion in Shalu District, Taichung. He is also suspected of using Lin as a dummy to defraud NT$1.08 million in assistant fees. The first and second instances sentenced Yen to 7 years and 10 months, but the Supreme Court's decision now necessitates a retrial.
