Prosecutor's Two-Month Salary Penalty Confirmed After Dinner with Wu Nai-ren

A prosecutor surnamed Hsu from the Taipei District Prosecutors Office has been sentenced to a penalty equivalent to two months of his current monthly salary for improper conduct involving a dinner with DPP political heavyweight Wu Nai-ren. The Disciplinary Court's tribunal upheld the first-instance ruling, rejecting the Ministry of Justice's appeal for a six-month penalty, and the case is now final. According to the Ministry of Justice's Prosecutor Evaluation Committee, Hsu and four other prosecutors dined with a recruitment agent and Wu Nai-ren, a controversial political figure, at a Taipei restaurant on December 26, 2024. The meal cost 58,696 NTD and was paid for by the agent. The committee found that Hsu, an old acquaintance of the agent, allowed the arrangement of a high-end dinner despite knowing Wu would attend. The other four prosecutors were not disciplined as they believed Hsu was paying. The court ruled that the expense far exceeded standard social etiquette for public servants and constituted a serious ethical violation.
