Verdict Expected Today for One Suspect in Foiled Taylor Swift Vienna Concert Terror Plot

An Austrian court is expected to deliver a verdict today regarding the case of a terror threat against American pop star Taylor Swift's 2024 concert, involving one of the suspects who has pleaded guilty. The male suspect faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. According to AFP, Taylor Swift's record-breaking 'Eras' tour was scheduled for three shows in the Austrian capital, Vienna, but was canceled after authorities warned of a planned attack. The suspect, identified as Beran A., was arrested the day before the scheduled concert and has been in custody since. He is accused of planning the attack and organizing an Islamic State (IS) cell. Beran A. faces charges of terrorist offenses and several other counts, and stood trial in April at the Wiener Neustadt court south of Vienna. He pleaded guilty to all charges except for complicity in attempted murder. Beran A.'s lawyer, Anna Mair, told AFP that the trial would conclude today after two experts present their opinions and both sides deliver closing arguments, with a verdict expected in the evening. If the defendant is acquitted of complicity in attempted murder, he faces a maximum of 10 years in prison. Another 21-year-old male defendant, identified as Arda K., is also involved in the case. Prosecutors stated that he, along with Beran A. and another Austrian identified as Hasan E., formed a 'highly dangerous IS terror cell' to plan several attacks in the name of IS. Hasan E. is currently detained in Saudi Arabia.
