Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu Meets Former US Army Pacific Commander, Defense Budget to Pass May 29

Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu met today with a delegation from the US-Taiwan Business Council's Defense and Aerospace Industry, led by former US Army Pacific Commander General Charles Flynn. Han stated that the Legislative Yuan is actively accelerating legal and budgetary procedures to support national defense needs, with the 115th fiscal year special defense procurement budget expected to complete its review tomorrow. The meeting was attended by KMT legislator Ko Ju-chun, DPP legislator Chung Chia-pin, and TPP legislator Wang An-hsiang. Han emphasized that amid global instability, Taiwan and the US share core values of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, and have a joint responsibility for supply chain security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. He noted that the Legislative Yuan passed the 25 billion USD 'Special Act on Procurement for National Security and Strengthening Asymmetric Combat Capabilities' on May 8. General Flynn stated that his visit focused on AI, semiconductors, chips, and asymmetric warfare, reiterating his long-term support for Taiwan's self-defense capabilities, noting that Taiwan's security is vital to regional peace.
