The U.S. Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation into whether E. Jean Carroll committed perjury in her civil lawsuits against Donald Trump. The investigation focuses on whether Carroll lied under oath when she claimed she received no outside funding for her legal fees, despite later admitting that billionaire Reid Hoffman helped cover some costs. The DOJ has transferred the investigation to federal prosecutors in Chicago. Trump has been ordered to pay approximately $88 million in damages across two cases and is currently appealing.
