Pingtung County Advances Smart Education with 8,000 Additional Tablets Toward 'One Tablet per Student'

Pingtung County Government has been investing in smart education equipment in recent years, currently deploying approximately 26,000 tablets across the county. This year, it has purchased an additional 8,000 tablets, moving toward the vision of achieving 'One Tablet per Student' by the 118th academic year. The county government announced today that Chao-He Elementary School has promoted smart education and digital curriculum development in recent years, earning the Apple Distinguished School certification. This not only recognizes the school's digital education capabilities but also highlights the execution of Pingtung County's long-term digital education policy. The County Education Department stated that they have invested in smart equipment, high-speed campus networks, teacher digital training, and curriculum design, gradually building Pingtung into a model county for digital education. Currently, over 50,000 teachers and students in high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools across the county are equipped with approximately 26,000 tablets. This year, the budget was allocated to purchase 8,000 more, increasing the deployment ratio per class and moving toward the goal of 'One Tablet per Student' by the 118th academic year to truly realize adaptive and autonomous learning. Chao-He Elementary School began introducing digital education in 2019, starting with one device and now owning over 500 tablets, with digital learning integrated into daily campus life. As the results became evident, the number of new students grew from 48 in the 2019 academic year to over 110 in the 2021 academic year, becoming a successful case of local educational transformation. Chao-He Elementary School Principal Hsieh Hsiang-ju stated that the school's core educational philosophy is 'Global Citizen,' cultivating children's inquiry, communication, and action skills through digital education, bilingual education, and diverse clubs. Digital education is not 'technology for technology's sake,' but rather a way to guide children to learn happily and develop diversely through solid teaching design and collaborative learning.
