17-year-old French teenager Moise Kouame defeated former US Open champion Marin Cilic 7-6(4), 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of the French Open today, becoming the youngest winner in a Grand Slam main draw in 17 years. Playing on a wildcard at the Simonne Mathieu court, Kouame showed composure against an opponent 20 years his senior who once ranked world No. 3. Kouame saved two set points in the first-set tiebreak and dominated the rest of the match. At 17 years and 2 months, he is the youngest winner since Bernard Tomic at the 2009 Australian Open.
