Central News Agency, Kaohsiung, May 27. A couple surnamed Lin and Liu were indicted by the Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office for allegedly using a rented container house on reclaimed land in the Meinong Grand Canyon area as a drug distribution hub and storing ammunition. Whether the landowner or the container owner were involved in illegal activities remains under investigation by police and prosecutors.
The Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office announced today that after receiving intelligence regarding a drug distribution and sales point, a special task force consisting of prosecutors, police, and the Coast Guard Administration was formed. Following long-term evidence collection, remote monitoring via high-tech equipment, and big data analysis, a search and arrest operation was conducted on January 19 at a container house located on land at Lot 1069, Xinjiyang Section, Meinong District, Kaohsiung City.
Prosecutors stated that the task force seized 315.52 grams of Category 1 drug heroin, 1138.37 grams of Category 2 drug methamphetamine, 90.21 grams of etomidate, 10 etomidate cartridges, a batch of drug packaging tools, and a total of 6 lethal standard and non-standard bullets. The couple was arrested on the spot.
Investigations revealed that 53-year-old Lin and 41-year-old Liu are a couple. Liu allegedly rented the container house and provided it to Lin to store the ammunition and drugs he had purchased. The two allegedly used the container as a base to package and sell heroin, methamphetamine, and etomidate cartridges.
Prosecutors estimate the total market value of the seized drugs to be approximately NT$13 million. After questioning, Lin was detained, and Liu was released on NT$50,000 bail. The case was concluded on April 21, and both were indicted for violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act and the Controlling Guns, Ammunition and Knives Act.
Prosecutors noted that the container house is located on land reclaimed under the "Meinong Grand Canyon Case," and whether the landowner or the container owner bears criminal responsibility is still under investigation.
