Hsinchu Prosecutors Seek Detention for 4 in County Government Bribery Case

The Hsinchu District Prosecutors Office is investigating a case involving a contract employee surnamed Liao from the Hsinchu County Government's Public Works Department, who is suspected of accepting bribes from soil and resource disposal sites in violation of the Anti-Corruption Act. Yesterday, authorities searched 16 locations and questioned 23 people. Four individuals, including Liao, are considered to have committed serious offenses with a risk of collusion, leading prosecutors to file for their detention and incommunicado status today. According to the prosecutors, they coordinated with the Agency Against Corruption to conduct the searches and summoned a total of 28 people, including 23 defendants and 5 witnesses. After questioning, the prosecutor determined there was strong evidence of violations of the Anti-Corruption Act, the Waste Disposal Act, and the Business Accounting Act. The Hsinchu County Government stated that it cannot comment on the details but will fully cooperate with the investigation.
