Lee Shu-chuan Supports Nuclear Power; Su Chiao-hui Responds: No Nuclear Safety, No Right to Use Nuclear Energy

In response to NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's statement today that "NVIDIA needs more energy in Taiwan," KMT New Taipei mayoral candidate Lee Shu-chuan told the media that everyone knows AI high-tech industries require electricity, and all industries in Taiwan are currently concerned about power stability. He stated that energy is crucial and he supports restarting nuclear power, asking his opponent, Su Chiao-hui, if she agrees. Regarding his campaign visual featuring a bridge, Lee, an engineer, noted that bridges connect people and vehicles, which is essential for society. He also commented on President Lai Ching-te's 18-point population strategy, noting that the KMT had previously proposed many of these measures. He urged Su not to oppose the Fiscal Revenue and Expenditure Act, which could provide New Taipei City with over 30 billion TWD in additional funding. DPP candidate Su Chiao-hui responded to the nuclear issue by stating that without nuclear safety and a solution for nuclear waste, there is no qualification to use nuclear energy. "If there is a solution in the future and a public consensus, we can discuss it then." Regarding the fiscal act, she clarified that she does not oppose the amendment itself, but opposes the version proposed by Fu Kun-chi, which would make per capita funding in Taipei City double that of New Taipei City. She also highlighted her role in shaping the government's 18 childcare welfare policies. Regarding Lee's campaign visuals, she expressed respect for his strategy, noting that her own campaign focuses on "warmth, innovation, and execution."
