Mayor Hou Yu-ih Expresses Regret Over Delayed TFI Phase 2 Construction

New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih expressed regret during a city council session regarding the delayed construction of the second phase of the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (TFI). Although the city government provided the land for the project, construction has yet to begin. Hou stated, "I already feel regret," and expressed uncertainty about whether the project would start during his term, urging the central government to stop delaying. During the session, KMT Councilor Tai Hsiang-yi questioned why the project, which former Premier Su Tseng-chang promised would be fully funded by the central government, remains stalled, suggesting a possible link to election cycles. Hou compared the situation to the Children's Future Hall, noting that central government promises have not been fulfilled. He also supported City Council Speaker Chiang Ken-huang's suggestion that the city should take over the project if the central government fails to act. Hou criticized the excessive time spent on minor adjustments to the original parking lot plan, urging for immediate action.
