Pingtung County to Subsidize Health Insurance Premiums for Seniors Aged 65+, Starting Jan 2027

Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi announced today that starting January 2027, the county will subsidize health insurance premiums for seniors aged 65 and older, and indigenous people aged 55 and older. The policy is expected to benefit approximately 170,000 people, with an annual budget of NT$1.6 billion. Eligible residents must have been registered in Pingtung County for at least one year and have an income tax rate of 5% or less. Each eligible person will receive a monthly subsidy of NT$826. Magistrate Chou emphasized that Pingtung has not incurred new debt in the past decade and will continue to promote construction and welfare policies through fiscal discipline. She also highlighted recent healthcare improvements, including the opening of new medical buildings at E-Da Hospital and Pingtung Christian Hospital, aiming to achieve medical equality across the county.
