New population strategy budget estimated at 205 billion TWD annually; Executive Yuan establishes task force

CNA, Taipei, May 27. President Lai Ching-te announced today the latest 18 strategies to address the challenges of declining birth rates and population structure. The government estimates an annual budget increase of 205 billion TWD, with a total injection of 380 billion TWD. The Executive Yuan will also establish a new population strategy task force, with Premier Cho Jung-tai serving as the convener to track policy progress. President Lai held a press conference this morning with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, Premier Cho Jung-tai, Vice Premier Cheng Li-chun, and other cabinet members to announce the "Taiwan Population Strategy - Family Support" initiative. The 18 measures include growth allowances for children aged 0-18, expanded subsidies for artificial reproduction, tax cuts for families with children, and extensions for marriage, maternity, and paternity leave. President Lai stated that to ensure the effective implementation of these policies, he has asked the Executive Yuan to complete the legislative work for items involving legal amendments, strengthen communication between ruling and opposition parties, and establish the task force. He emphasized that the policy aims to share the fruits of economic growth with all citizens and build a stronger foundation for Taiwan's long-term sustainable development. Executive Yuan Secretary-General Chang Tun-han reported that the policy is estimated to add 205 billion TWD to the budget annually, with a total of 380 billion TWD to assist, benefiting an estimated 27.7 million people. The policy aims to fulfill the administrative goals set from Premier Lai to President Lai and implement the vision promised during the campaign, hoping for support from all political parties.
