Lecturer: Dr. Atsushi Hozumi, Senior Principal Researcher, Multi-materials Research Institute, AIST
This seminar first aims to provide a fundamental understanding of solid surface wettability (water/oil repellency) and the practically important aspects of dynamic wettability (advancing/receding contact angle, contact angle hysteresis, sliding/roll-off angle). Next, it will introduce the latest domestic and international R&D trends in various surface treatment and modification technologies for controlling dynamic wettability. Furthermore, in light of legal regulations on long-chain perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) such as PFOA and PFOS, the speaker will provide a clear and detailed explanation of fluorine-free surface treatment and modification technologies using various functional thin films (monolayers, polymer thin films, sol-gel coatings, etc.) developed by the speaker's team, with practical examples.
