Yokohama Offers Up to ¥5 Million Subsidy for Shared Facilities in Rental Housing – Application Now Open!

Yokohama City has opened applications for the "Support for Child-Rearing Rental Housing Improvement Subsidy Program," designed to help create family-friendly housing environments.

This program provides financial assistance for the development of shared facilities in rental housing that support child-rearing.

This initiative is highly recommended for property owners planning new construction or renovating existing buildings.

【1】Examples of Eligible Shared Facilities

- Kids' Room - Playlot - Kitchen Garden - Benches - Library Corner - Shared Kitchen - Coworking Room - Laundry Space - Communal Flower Beds (Greening)

Any shared space that supports child-rearing activities is eligible.

Moreover, beyond the listed examples, owners may submit "free proposals" for unique shared facilities, as long as they serve child-rearing purposes.

This flexibility allows property owners to tailor facilities to their building’s concept and location, enabling differentiation from competitors and creating homes that remain attractive over time.

【2】Subsidy Amount

The subsidy covers half of the eligible construction costs, regardless of new construction or renovation.

- Up to ¥5 million for shared spaces open to the local community - Up to ¥3 million for spaces restricted to residents only

Additionally, if eligibility criteria are met, this subsidy can be combined with the national "Promotion of Child-Rearing Support Housing" program for further financial support.
