In conjunction with 'Water Week' (June 1–7), the Toyonaka City Waterworks Bureau will conduct an awareness campaign at the Hankyu Toyonaka Station Plaza on Monday, June 1.
On the day of the event, the bureau will distribute a new handbook introducing the importance of regular drinking water storage and home disaster preparedness. The handbook is written in 'Plain Japanese' to be easily understood by children and non-native residents.
Simultaneously, special book corners themed around the 'importance of water' will be set up at four local libraries and the Waterworks Bureau building. The bureau building will also feature a panel exhibition showcasing aid activities conducted during the Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
Following the earthquake off the Sanriku coast in April this year, which prompted warnings about subsequent seismic activity, the importance of preparedness is being re-recognized across Japan.
Through these initiatives, the bureau hopes to provide an opportunity for citizens to think about the importance of water and home stockpiling.
