Toshima Ward, the Toshima Manga Land Executive Committee, and the Nakano/Suginami/Toshima Animation and Other Regional Branding Project Executive Committee will begin accepting submissions for the 6th "Town of Tokiwa-so 4-Panel Manga Award" from today, July 1 (Wed), until September 13 (Sun).
This Year's Theme is "Wa" (Harmony/Peace)
The theme for this year is "Wa" (harmony/peace), and submissions are being accepted for two categories: the "General Category" and the "Junior Category." Each category will undergo a preliminary screening by the organizers and a final screening by the judges, with one Grand Prize winner, three Excellence Award winners, and several Honorable Mentions to be selected for each category. The chief judge will be Kotobuki Shiriagari, a manga artist who has continued unique activities in various genres, from satirical 4-panel manga in newspapers to story manga, and who received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in the spring of 2014.
Winning works will be announced on the official website on November 1 (Sun), and an awards ceremony will be held in November. The winning works are also scheduled to be exhibited from November 1 at facilities within the ward, including the Tokiwa-so Manga Museum.
Comment from Ward Representative
Regarding the holding of this project, a ward representative stated, "The Tokiwa-so Manga Museum celebrates its 6th anniversary this year, and this project, which has been held since the museum's opening, also marks its 6th iteration. This year's theme is 'Wa,' and the interpretation of this word is diverse, encompassing peace, Japanese harmony, and peacefulness. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of 'Wa' 4-panel manga will be drawn from each perspective in this 'Town of Tokiwa-so 4-Panel Manga Award,' which can be entered by everyone from children to adults. We await your submissions."
